Coverage indicates the breadth of regions served, not how a connection will perform on every network. The table below illustrates how regions, cities, and route types relate; check the account panel for current routes, names, and types.

Locations.Check the exit and the route.

A location in a route name usually identifies the exit point, while the city can distinguish different entry points or resources within the same region. The same exit location does not mean the entire network path is identical. Different route types do not guarantee a consistent performance ranking across all websites. When choosing a route, consider the destination service, your access network, and what you need to do.

The examples below cover Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, and other regions. They are not a complete inventory or a fixed list of available locations. Route types illustrate possible configurations and do not guarantee that a particular resource will remain available in a given city. Streaming is marked “Confirm after connecting” throughout because playback depends on content catalogs, account eligibility, and how platforms identify the exit location.

Route types. The difference is how traffic is carried.

IEPL, relayed, and direct describe different ways of organizing network paths, not an overall rating of the experience. A complete connection also involves your local access network, international transit, the exit network, and the destination website. A clearly organized segment cannot eliminate the effects of other parts of the route. The cost differences below are general technical context, not extra fees. For actual X5VPN plans, see the pricing page.

IEPL

How the international segment is routed

IEPL generally refers to an international Ethernet private line connecting different locations over dedicated transmission capacity. This differs from routing traffic hop by hop over the public internet, and its resources and maintenance typically cost more. “Dedicated line” describes the type of transmission; it does not mean each subscriber has exclusive use of the entire connection, nor that every segment from your device to the destination website uses a dedicated line.

This option may be worth considering for sustained connections, long work sessions, or use during peak evening hours. Judge it by whether your actual tasks run continuously: pages respond, calls remain clear, and file transfers complete without interruption. A dedicated line cannot solve problems such as a congested local Wi-Fi network or a slow-responding destination service.

Relayed

Route connections through an intermediate node

A relayed route sends the connection through an intermediate node before it reaches the exit. The purpose is to adjust the combination of entry points and international paths, not simply to add another forwarding hop. Costs depend on the intermediate resources, transmission method, and exit setup, so the label “relayed” alone does not indicate whether a route costs more or less.

Relayed routes are worth considering for everyday browsing, streaming, and mixed workloads. Routes with the same exit location may use different entry points, so compare them on your own network. If performance changes significantly when you switch access networks, the connection from your network to the entry point may be the cause—not the exit city. Repeatedly switching countries may not help you find a suitable route.

Direct

Connect directly to the selected node

A direct connection generally means the client connects to the destination node without a separate relay entry point managed by the service. Traffic still passes through your provider’s routing infrastructure; it does not travel between your device and the data center without other network equipment. This architecture is relatively straightforward to organize and often easier to control for cost, but performance depends more on your provider’s international gateway and the destination network.

A direct route may be worth considering if your access conditions are good and you want to compare different exits. A route that looks more direct is not necessarily shorter in practice or faster at every hour. Compare a direct route with a relayed route in the same region under the same workload, then choose what works for everyday use. Don’t assume one is inherently a lower- or higher-tier option based on its name.

When comparing routes, keep the exit region and task the same where possible. If the region, route type, and local network all change at once, it is difficult to tell what caused the difference.

Choose by use case.Start with whether the task works.

Everyday browsing

Check page interactions and location consistency

For international websites, start with an exit location that is geographically close and meets the service’s requirements. Then check that images, search, sign-in, and attachments all load correctly. A homepage loading does not mean every request on the site is working; some resources may be hosted on different domains. If you see text only or repeated sign-in redirects, check your client rules and system proxy settings first.

Once you find a route that works, try to keep the exit location consistent for everyday tasks. Frequent location changes may prompt websites to recheck your sign-in environment and make troubleshooting harder. If only one site is having trouble, test another site to confirm the basic connection, then check the affected site’s account and service status. There’s no need to replace every setting right away.

Streaming

Check the catalog and playback eligibility first

Streaming depends on several factors, including your connection, platform account, content rights, and how the exit location is identified. A route location does not map reliably to a particular content catalog. Seeing a node in a certain region does not guarantee access to all content on Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, or HBO. Testing the specific title is more useful than checking whether the platform homepage loads.

If playback stutters, note whether buffering takes a long time to start, playback keeps pausing, or the platform displays a location notice. For the first issue, compare other routes in the same region; for the latter, check your account and the platform’s rules. HD and higher resolutions also depend on device decoding, platform eligibility, and your local network, so don’t attribute playback quality to the route alone. See our streaming guide for more troubleshooting tips.

AI Tools

Keep an exit location that meets the service’s requirements

Before using an AI tool, review the platform’s requirements for location, accounts, and payment eligibility. A network connection only handles transmission; it cannot replace account permissions or service eligibility. Choose a location based on the platform’s published supported regions. Then test the full workflow, including sign-in, submitting a prompt, receiving a response, and uploading files.

Switching exit locations repeatedly during a conversation may trigger a session refresh or an account environment check. If the page opens but no response appears, check whether client rules are missing, a persistent connection has dropped, or the platform is reporting a quota or eligibility issue. Try another route type in the same region and start a new session. Keep a clear record of the error rather than cycling through multiple regions at random.

Gaming

Check the game region and connection in practice

For gaming, first confirm the game region and server location. An exit location near the player may not be near the game server, and straight-line distance on a map does not show the full network path. A subscription service is not the same as a tool optimized for a specific game, and this page makes no guarantees about gaming performance. Test the full process—sign-in, matchmaking, and an actual match—to see whether a route helps with a particular game.

If websites work but the game connection does not change, check whether the client is routing the game’s traffic and whether it supports the connection method the game requires. Don’t mistake a proxy mode issue for a node in a particular country not working. For games on mainland China servers, or games that already have a suitable route, changing the exit may add network hops. Decide whether to enable it based on each task.

Work

Check calls, documents, and workplace policies together

Remote work involves more than loading web pages: it can include video and audio calls, document syncing, file uploads, and workplace sign-in. Prefer a route that matches the region of your work services and stays reliable during actual use, and keep a verified backup route available. For long sessions, completing work matters more than a brief download speed test. Save any unsynced work before changing routes.

Work-managed devices may already run organization-managed network clients or access rules. Follow your organization’s policies and avoid changing managed settings on your own. If a work application has problems, check whether the organization’s access method conflicts with X5VPN’s client, then decide which set of rules should handle that traffic. Unlimited devices are supported, but each device still needs its own settings checked.

Get the current configuration from the panel

This table is a guide, not a set of instructions for manually creating connections from city names. Sign in to the user panel to get your subscription and current route list, then import them as directed by your client. If route names change, update your subscription first and check whether your previous selection is still available. Subscription details are account credentials; don’t share addresses or access credentials when asking for help.

X5VPN supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux. On platforms other than iOS, sign in to access the X5VPN client. For iOS, follow the eligibility prompt in the panel. Sign in to get your subscription; this page does not provide installers or direct subscription links. For setup, follow our getting started guide to connect and verify your setup step by step.

Get the client

Change one thing at a time

When a connection fails, first check whether your local network can access commonly used websites. Then check whether the client shows as connected, the subscription is up to date, and the target app is following the expected rules. Once the basic connection works, keep the same exit region and compare another route. If the problem persists, check the destination service’s location requirements and your account status. This makes it easier to reproduce your findings.

For help, open a support ticket through the panel and include the platform, access network, route name, target app, and error message, along with the action that triggered the issue. Hide account and subscription details before sharing screenshots. “The page loads, but uploads fail” is more useful for troubleshooting than “the connection is bad.” You can also check the FAQ for common issues.
